Masonry repair is diagnosis first, trowel second. Around Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena and across the Los Angeles area we are called for leaning property walls, bulging retaining walls, stair-step cracks through block, settled brick steps, spalling faces and failing river rock — and the visible symptom is never the whole story. We find what actually failed (water, footing, reinforcement, or age), fix that, and then make the repair disappear into the original work.
Restoration is the version of repair we are proudest of. The foothill neighborhoods are full of century-old river rock and brick worth saving, and saving it is a craft: on one failed historic river rock wall we rebuilt with roughly 95 percent of the original stone, so the finished wall looked untouched by time or trouble. Matching mortar, reusing material, respecting the original coursing — that is the difference between restoration and replacement.

Cracks are a language. Vertical hairlines in stucco are usually cosmetic; stair-step cracks through block joints point at movement; a lean or bulge in a retaining wall says water and pressure are winning. We read the wall, tell you which conversation you are actually in - cosmetic, structural, or urgent - and price the fix that matches, not the biggest one we can sell.
Plenty of assessments end with good news: a sound wall that needs drainage relief, repointing and refinishing instead of demolition. One project in our work was exactly that - a wall in much need of help, reinforced and refinished with a resistant stucco coat until it looked like new construction, at a fraction of rebuild cost.
Old masonry has a face new work cannot fake - river rock hauled from the arroyos, brick with a century of patina, mortar lines struck by hand. Restoration means rebuilding failed sections with the original material wherever it survives, sourcing honest matches where it does not, and tuning new mortar to the old in color, texture and joint profile.
It is slower than tear-off-and-replace, and worth it: the property keeps its character, and the repair ages with the original instead of beside it. If your house or garden has historic stone or brick in trouble, get eyes on it early - the more original material still standing, the more we can save.
A repair that ignores the cause is a subscription. Rebuilt walls get the drainage the original never had; repointed joints get mortar compatible with the masonry instead of the hardest bag on the shelf; settled steps get their base corrected before a single brick is relaid. We fix the reason, then the appearance - in that order.
Where the diagnosis says full rebuild - footing gone, core crumbled, wall past saving - we say so plainly and fold demolition into the plan. The rebuilt wall comes back as a properly engineered structure with the finish you choose, and the problem stays fixed.

We look at the project where it lives: the grade, the access, what is being held back or built on, and what you want the finished space to look like.
You get a written quote with a real timeline. It spells out materials, finishes, demolition and haul-off, and flags permit or engineering questions before anything is built.
Proper base and footings, clean courses, real drainage behind every wall. The details you cannot see are the reason the work lasts, and we treat them that way.
We walk the finished work together — joints, finishes, cleanup, the whole job. Done means you have looked at every part of it and said so.
