Finish is where concrete gets interesting: clean broom finish for grip, smooth trowel for modern lines, exposed aggregate, and color that warms the gray. We also resurface and recoat sound existing concrete — several of the before-and-afters in our work are tired pool decks and patios brought back with a fresh surface instead of a full tear-out. A driveway is a structure with a job, and the job is heavy. Ours get real excavation, compacted base, reinforcement matched to the span and load, a proper thickness pour, and joints cut where the panel wants to move. LA soils — expansive clay in plenty of neighborhoods — punish shortcuts, which is why the cheap driveway and the good driveway look identical for exactly two years.
Replacements are most of our driveway work: the cracked, settled, patched slab demoed and hauled, grade corrected, and a new driveway poured with drainage falls that send water to the street instead of the garage. Pair it with a retaining wall edge or brick banding and the front of the house changes completely.
The patio slab is the floor of your outdoor room, and floors are judged by feel: flat underfoot and under furniture, pitched just enough to drain, finished for the use — grip where it is wet, smooth where chairs slide. Pool decks add their own rules: falls away from the water, expansion detail at the coping, and surfaces that stay comfortable barefoot.
Concrete is also the quiet base under better-dressed surfaces. Our tile pool decks, flagstone patios and mortared paver work all start with a properly built slab, and outdoor kitchens and fire features sit on pads engineered to carry them. Getting the concrete right first is why the pretty layer lasts.
Sloped lots run on steps, and steps are precision concrete: consistent risers, treads that drain, and edges finished clean enough to walk at night without thinking. We pour stair runs on hillside paths, entries and terraced yards — including runs with lighting blocked in — plus the small structural pours a property collects: footings, equipment pads, curbs and mowstrips.
Resurfacing rounds out the list. Where an existing slab is sound but ugly, coatings and toppings deliver a new surface for a fraction of replacement — we have turned aging red-painted pool decks into clean modern surfaces without a single truckload of demolition.
