Burbank splits into two kinds of masonry country. The valley floor — Magnolia Park, the Rancho, the streets around the studios — is classic post-war LA: ranch houses with concrete driveways, block property walls, brick planters and backyard patios that work hard. Above Glenoaks Boulevard, the Burbank hills climb into the Verdugos, and the story changes to retaining walls, terraced yards, stepped entries and view lots that need serious structure under their landscaping.
