One Masonry Crew for All of Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a masonry city that forgot it for a few decades and is remembering fast. The housing stock tells the story: 1920s Spanish and Craftsman houses with brick porches, garden walls and chimney-anchored facades; mid-century blocks with planters and block walls; hillside neighborhoods terraced on retaining walls from Mount Washington to Silver Lake. Nearly all of it is seventy to a hundred years old now, which means nearly all of it needs a mason - to repair what settled, extend what works, and build the outdoor rooms LA actually lives in.

Camberos Masonry works the whole range across the basin and the Eastside: brick work that matches original coursing on the old streets, block walls replacing leaning fences, repair and repointing on tired mortar, hillside retaining walls, and the paver, concrete and outdoor living work that finishes a property. Family-run, our own crew, and the reviews to check us on.

Old brick, honest repair

A big share of LA masonry calls are really matching problems: a 1928 porch that needs three courses rebuilt without the seam showing, a garden wall the last owner extended badly, mortar joints gone soft on a street of houses the same age. That is craft work - matching brick, color and joint profile - and it is some of our favorite. Repairs done right disappear; repairs done cheap advertise themselves forever.

We are equally straight about what old-brick work is not: decorative and garden masonry, walls, veneer and repairs are our lane, and structural seismic retrofitting of unreinforced masonry buildings is an engineering trade with its own specialists. If your project crosses that line, we will say so plainly and point you right.

Block walls, hillsides and the outdoor room

The everyday workhorses of LA masonry are less romantic and more essential: reinforced block walls where wood fences keep failing, retaining walls holding the hillside neighborhoods in place, driveways and steps that survive the sun. LA's slopes make walls a way of life - and its fire seasons are making non-combustible block, stone and concrete the default answer near structures, which suits us fine, because that has always been the material list.

And then there is the reason people love these yards: the outdoor kitchens and fire features, patios and seat walls that turn a lot into a place. We build those as one coordinated project - walls, grades, surfaces and the island - so the finished yard agrees with itself.

Questions From Los Angeles Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Los Angeles. Don't see yours? Call us — we're happy to help.

Call (424) 653-0453

Do you really work all over Los Angeles?
The Eastside corridor - Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Atwater, Los Feliz, Silver Lake - connects straight to our Glendale-Burbank home turf and we are in it constantly. Westside and Mid-City projects are welcome too; for a specific address, call and we will give you a straight answer on scheduling.
Can you match the brick on my older house?
Usually, yes - matching brick, mortar color and joint style is the heart of repair work on LA housing stock. We source reclaimed and compatible brick where originals are gone, and we will tell you honestly when a perfect match is not possible and what the best-looking alternative is.
Do you do seismic retrofits of brick buildings?
No - structural retrofitting of unreinforced masonry is an engineering specialty and we say so upfront. Our work is walls, veneer, repair, hardscape and outdoor living. If an inspector or engineer has flagged structural issues, we can still handle the finish masonry once the structural work is done.
What does a block wall cost in LA?
Published guides run $60 to $240 per linear foot installed depending on height and reinforcement, and LA pricing trends toward the upper part of national ranges. Our written quotes price your actual wall - height, footing, finish - free, from a site visit.
